This trip to
the northwest highlands of Mai Chau offers a combination
of cultural sightseeing and physical activity, set amongst
some of northern Vietnam’s most stunning scenery. We trek
for one and a half days through villages in Mai Chau and
stay overnight in a White Thai village where we have the
chance to get to know this hospitable village. From the
mountainous region of Mai Chau, we travel back to the
nation's capital, Hanoi.
Activities:
Trekking and cultural experience
Day 1: Hanoi – Mai Chau – Trekking Hang Kia (L,D)
We depart Hanoi heading west towards Hoa Binh then
onto Mai Chau. We make stops along the way to take in the
spectacular scenery. Following lunch in Mai Chau town we
drive to the H'mong village of Sa Linh where we start our
trek to the village of Hang Kia. Our hosts for the night
are the Hmong people. While enjoying their hospitality, we
will discover a little more about their lives and culture.
Day 2: Hang Kia village – Trekking to Van village (B,L,D)
Today’s walk will be around 14 km. We begin by
crossing the mountains and back down into the Mai Chau
valley to Poong Cong village. As we walk we encounter
local villagers going about their daily business tilling
the fields, logging or herding buffalo. By lunch time we
reach our destination and enjoy lunch before having a
stroll around the hamlets nestled in this picturesque
valley. We dine and spend the night with a local Thai
family.
Day 3: Van village - Hanoi (B,L)
This morning we have the opportunity to spend some
more time strolling around the hamlets and witnessing the
beginnings of another day in rural Vietnam before we
return to Hanoi. Our first stop on our return journey will
be a Muong village. We will spend a couple of hours there
before continuing onto Hoa Binh town for lunch. From here
it is a 2-hour drive back to Hanoi. We arrive in Hanoi
around 16.00.
